Another wonderful weekend with the Kilowatt Kampers! There were 9 rigs which included:
Dick Ruff|Wagonmaster/Marilyn Cormier
Dave/Dolly Wrong Stevie & Timmy
Mike/Marie Santos, Kaitlyn & Lauren
Lenny/shelley Nash, Amy, Dan & 2 friends
Walter/sandra Sacharczyk (Shelley’s parents)
Bob/Barbara Bidwell, Dave, his sister, & brother
Angel/Rosa Santiago, David
McAdams had already settled in on Thursday; Santiago’s & Santos’ also brought in their rigs early & returned the
next day. Sat around a wonderful campfire as usual on Friday night while we shared wine/cheese/crackers, along
with coffee, tea & hot chocolate & sweets.
The weather forecast for Saturday was not too promising – scattered showers were predicted but we lucked out for
most of the day. Everyone took off in different diredions. Many of the guys headed out to the dam area & did
some bicycling, while the girls went shopping at the Brattleboro outlets. Of course the rains came mid-afternoon!
We were just ready to begin our fun & game session at 3:30 when the rains came. Finally let up long enough to
have some fun at about 4: 15. The little kids had a wonderful time searching for coins in a mound of sawdust
(even though they had just had showers!) the teenagers, along with some adults, had a ball with the water
balloons! The adults were spared from the egg toss when the showers came again! Rather than worry about rain
on our potluck supper” we relocated up to the rec hall. Worked out beautifully! No rain, no bugs, heat, & just a
wonderful spread loaded with foods of all kinds from Spanish rice & beans, Chinese dishes, French baked beans,
‘talian meatball grinders: Polish sauerkraut & kielbasa, along with homemade chocolate chip cookies. Once we
had all indulged, a beautiful sheet cake was brought in to celebrate Shelley & Rosa’ s 40th birthdays along with
Made’s birthday! Anna Mae Bostrom, campground owner, joined us for dinner also. Once all was over, Dick
Ruff thanked everyone for their attendance & informed all of the upcoming 50th knmpout scheduled for the
spring. Since Dick & Art Dely are veteran kilowatters, they will co-chair the spring knmpoutu, possibly in
southern Connecticut, around the 1st or 2nd week of June. Hopefully, we can recruit many of the original
Kilowatters to join us. Our supper session ended with little gifts for everyone.
A good time was had by all as we headed back to the “kilowatt camping area” by the river, to find a huge fire
tended by Lenny. By 9:30 PM, the rains returned & we had to move inside for the night. It rained most of the
night but by 8:30 on Sunday morning we gathered for breakfast which included all kinds of breakfast goodies.
This meant the end to another good weekend and our goodbyes until spring once again.
