Massachusetts Update: Changes to Law on Criminal Background Checks Effective May 4, 2012

May 4th in Mass jobs can not ask about criminal background information on a job app. Company’s must cross off this question and write DO NOT ANSWER along with verbal instructions not to answer the question. Background checks can still be done but if you are going to ask the applicant any information regarding the criminal information the company must first show the person the information you have and if they will not hire you because of the information they found the applicant must get a copy of the information along with the reason not being hired.
